Feeding and nutrition

What is weaning?

Weaning is the process of introducing your baby to soft or solid foods while gradually reducing milk feeds – and it can be great fun along the way!

First foods are incredibly exciting for babies, and really rewarding for parents – so don’t be afraid to let weaning be more about exploring and having fun than providing nutrition to start off with. Along the way your little one will develop chewing and swallowing reflexes, discover new flavours and textures, and learn how to feed from a spoon (or how to feed themselves).

While there are lots of guidelines to help you get started, what works and how long weaning takes is really down to what suits you and your baby.
